The website, Confused.com, found that married couples saved an average of ?34 from the top ten insurance providers. Head of motor insurance Will Thomas, of the website said that motorists could save a considerable amount of cash on their car insurance premiums by simply getting married. He said: "Weddings are expensive affairs; however, it is some consolation that a new married status could save drivers up to 16 per cent on their car insurance premiums." Married couples would not be required to change their insurance provider. All they would need to do is declare their spouse on their current insurance policy. So if you popped the question on Valentine's Day, be prepared to save more on your car insurance. However, if motorists are not yet ready to take the next step to commitment, Mr Thomas assures motorists that cheap deals are still around. He said: "While there are some great deals to be had, shopping around for the best deal is essential as some insurance providers are less competitive in this field than others." Cheaper car insurance Motorists struggling to find cheap car insurance may discover that they may need to change their vehicle to a more economical and friendlier one if they want to see their premiums fall.? According to a vehicle information company, HPI, "now is a great time to buy a used car" as prices are lower and more affordable. Martin Keighley, Used Car Valuations expert of HPI said, "Overall, in the trade, we are seeing that some types of vehicles are showing signs of improved confidence, with the City, Supermini and Small Car types leading the charge. We are also seeing that some Luxury and 4x4 petrol models are showing signs of perking up. For the man on the street, this means that the value of these cars is on the rise, albeit they currently still represent an extremely attractive buy." The firm pointed out that buyers should act quickly because it was unlikely the current offers would last for much longer. "Job losses continue to hit the headlines and many of us are worried whether we will be in work this time next year. But on the other hand, some people are now paying less for their mortgage, fuel, food and clothes. This means they haven't had this much disposable income for a while and for those of you in this position, now is the time to bag yourself a used car bargain, just move quickly as good quality stock is getting scarce," added Keighley.
